How do you schedule a text message in Salesforce? With ConnectSMS, write the message in the Text Messages component on a record or in the shared inbox. Open the Send options next to Send, choose Schedule for later, and pick a date and a time in your Salesforce time zone. Select Schedule, and the message waits on the record as Scheduled until ConnectSMS sends it.

Animation: on Sarah Chen's Contact record, Alex Kim writes "Hi Sarah, a reminder of your visit today at 10:30 AM. Reply here if you need to reschedule.", opens the Send options and chooses Schedule for later, then changes the date from today to Oct 13, 2026 and picks the 9:00 AM slot. After Schedule, the reminder appears on the record as Scheduled, with "Sends Tue, Oct 13 at 9:00 AM EDT" and a Cancel sending link.

How it works

Scheduled in three steps.

Step 1

Write the message

Type it or insert a template, and preview it with merge fields filled in, its segment count and the number it goes to.

Step 2

Choose Schedule for later

Open the Send options next to Send. The date starts at today, or tomorrow when no time slots are left today, and the button changes to Schedule.

Step 3

Pick a date and a time

Choose a day and a 15-minute slot. The line under the fields says exactly when it sends, such as Sends Tue, Oct 13 at 9:00 AM EDT (America/New_York).

Schedule for later

Scheduled texts that stay under your control.

Scheduling works wherever people text from ConnectSMS, and every scheduled message stays visible, cancelable and checked.

  • 15-minute time slots

Pick any quarter hour up to 35 days ahead. Times that have already passed today aren't offered.

  • Your Salesforce time zone

Times use the time zone in your Salesforce settings, shown next to the time. The customer gets the text at that moment, wherever they are.

  • On records and in the inbox

Schedule for later is in the Send options of the Text Messages component on record pages and of the shared inbox's reply box.

  • Waits on the record

The message shows as Scheduled in the text history, with Sends Tue, Oct 13 at 9:00 AM EDT underneath.

  • Cancel sending

Cancel it any time before it's handed to Twilio. It stays in the history as Canceled, so the record shows what happened.

  • The right people can cancel

The person who scheduled it, anyone with Send access to that business number, and ConnectSMS admins.

  • Checked when you schedule

Opt-outs, merge fields, your access to the number and the time are checked before it's accepted, so problems show up now.

  • Checked again when it sends

Permissions, number access and opt-outs are checked again just before it goes out. If sending is turned off, it waits.

  • Sent at the time you chose

Quiet hours delay outreach and automation. A text you schedule yourself isn't held back.

What happens at the scheduled time

  1. Scheduled on the record
  2. Its time slot comes up
  3. Checked again
  4. Handed to your Twilio account
  5. Delivered

ConnectSMS background jobs run every 15 minutes and send each scheduled text in the run for its time slot. If the customer opted out, or the person who scheduled it lost access to the number, the message is marked Blocked with the reason instead. How reliability works

Plans change

Cancel a scheduled text in two clicks.

Every scheduled message has Cancel sending under it, on the record and in the inbox conversation.

  • Available until the message is handed to Twilio; after that it can't be recalled
  • A confirmation says what happens: the message won't be sent and stays in the history as Canceled
  • To change the wording or the time, cancel it and schedule a new one
  • Flows and Apex cancel with Cancel Scheduled Text Message and the Message ID

Scheduling in ConnectSMS

One text, a whole audience, or a process.

Schedule for later covers one message from a person. Outreach and automation have their own scheduling, with the same checks at send time.

When to schedule

Say it at the moment it's most useful.

A few ways teams use Schedule for later.

Reminders before a visit

Book the appointment, then schedule a reminder for the morning of it from the same record.

Follow-ups written after hours

Write the follow-up at the end of the day and schedule it for the next morning, so it doesn't arrive at night.

Nudges before a deadline

Schedule a note a few days before a renewal, a payment or an expiring quote, while the details are in front of you.

Texting someone in another time zone? Scheduled times are in your Salesforce time zone, so work out their local time first. For repeated sends in a customer's time zone, use outreach, which has its own time zone picker.

FAQ

Scheduling texts in Salesforce: common questions

Can I schedule a text message in Salesforce?

Yes. In ConnectSMS, open the Send options next to Send, on a record's Text Messages component or in the shared inbox, and choose Schedule for later. Pick a date and a 15-minute time slot up to 35 days ahead, then select Schedule. The message waits on the record as Scheduled and goes out on its own through your Twilio account.

Which time zone does a scheduled text use?

Your Salesforce time zone, from your personal settings. It's shown after the time, for example Sends Tue, Oct 13 at 9:00 AM EDT (America/New_York), and the customer receives the text at that moment wherever they are. Outreach is different: it has its own time zone picker.

Can I change or cancel a scheduled text?

You can cancel it until it's handed to Twilio: select Cancel sending under the message and confirm, and it stays in the history as Canceled. To change the text or the time, cancel it and schedule a new one. The person who scheduled it, anyone with Send access to that business number and ConnectSMS admins can cancel it.

What happens if something changes before it sends?

Merge fields are filled in when you schedule, so later edits to the record don't change the text. Just before sending, ConnectSMS checks permissions, number access and opt-outs again: if the customer opted out, or the person who scheduled it lost access to the number, the message is blocked with the reason instead of sent. If an admin has turned sending off, it waits and goes out once sending is back on.

Do quiet hours delay a text I schedule?

No. Quiet hours delay outreach and automation messages. A text a person schedules from a record or the inbox goes out at the time they picked.

Can Flow or Apex schedule texts?

Yes. Set the Send At input of the Send Text Message action, or scheduledAt in the ConnectSMSApi class, to a future date and time up to 35 days ahead. The message goes out in the first 15-minute slot at or after that time, and Cancel Scheduled Text Message cancels it with its Message ID.
