A US, Canadian or Australian number
Pictures and files can only go to numbers in these three countries. For anyone else, remove the attachments and send the message as text.
MMS
Attach photos, PDFs and other files to a text from a record or the shared inbox. ConnectSMS passes them to Twilio through temporary links that are deleted after a set number of hours.
Can you send MMS from Salesforce? Yes, with ConnectSMS, once an admin turns on Allow attachments through temporary public links. Pictures and files go to US, Canadian and Australian numbers from MMS-capable business numbers, with up to 10 files and 5 MB per message. Twilio and the recipient's carrier handle delivery.

Where MMS works
ConnectSMS checks all three before the message is sent, and tells you which one is missing instead of sending something that can't arrive.
The recipient
Pictures and files can only go to numbers in these three countries. For anyone else, remove the attachments and send the message as text.
Your business number
The number you send from must support MMS in Twilio, which ConnectSMS reads when numbers are synced. If it doesn't, choose a number that does, or send text only.
Your admin
MMS is off until an admin turns on Allow attachments through temporary public links in ConnectSMS Setup, under Policies.
Files and limits
Pictures are fully supported. A small set of other file types is allowed at a smaller size, in line with Twilio's guidance for carrier compatibility.
| What you attach | Formats | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Pictures | JPG, PNG, GIF | Fully supported, within the 5 MB total |
| Other files | PDF, vCard, TXT, MP3, M4A, MP4, 3GP, WebP, BMP | Up to 600 KB each |
| Per message | Any mix of the above | Up to 10 files and 5 MB in total |
| Message text | Optional, alongside the files | Up to 1,600 characters |
Temporary public links
To send a picture or file by MMS, Twilio has to download it from a public link. ConnectSMS keeps that link as narrow and as short-lived as it can.
Turning attachments on asks the admin to confirm, so it's a deliberate decision that matches your policies.

Sending
On a record page, choose Attach file from the composer's ⋮ menu; in the shared inbox, use the paperclip. Automation can attach files too.
Upload a file, or pick one you already have in Salesforce Files. A file uploaded on a record is also saved to that record.
Each file shows its size, with a running total against the 5 MB limit. The composer lists the allowed file types.
If the number can't send MMS, the recipient is outside the US, Canada or Australia, or attachments are off, the composer says so.
When the message is handed to Twilio, ConnectSMS checks the MMS rules and the sender's access to each file again.
The Send Text Message action takes File Version IDs, and ConnectSMSApi takes the same, with the same limits and admin setting.
Twilio charges MMS rates to your own Twilio account. ConnectSMS adds no message-plan limits.
Received media
When a customer texts a picture or file, it arrives in the same conversation as their message, on the record and in the inbox.
Recreated from the ConnectSMS interface with sample data.
ConnectSMS checks the message, creates the links and hands it to Twilio. From there, Twilio and the recipient's carrier download, deliver and sometimes resize or reject the media under their own rules. The message status shows what they report back, so a picture is only marked Delivered when the carrier confirms it.
Send the message as text only: text messages go to any country. ConnectSMS won't send attachments to numbers in other countries, and it tells you why rather than letting the message fail later.
FAQ
Yes, once an admin turns on attachments. Pictures and files are sent as MMS to US, Canadian and Australian numbers from MMS-capable business numbers, up to 10 files and 5 MB per message. ConnectSMS shares each file through a temporary link that expires after a set number of hours.
Pictures and files can be sent to US, Canadian and Australian numbers, the countries where Twilio documents MMS delivery. Text messages have no country limit, so for a number in another country, remove the attachments and send the message as text.
JPG, PNG and GIF pictures are fully supported. PDF, vCard, TXT, MP3, M4A, MP4, 3GP, WebP and BMP files can be sent up to 600 KB each. A message can carry up to 10 files and 5 MB in total.
ConnectSMS creates a public link to each file when the message is sent and deletes it after the number of hours your admin sets: 24 by default, anywhere from 1 to 168 hours (7 days). Until then, anyone with the link can open that one file. The record and your other files are not shared.
Yes. A picture a customer sends appears in the conversation with a View Picture link that opens it in Salesforce. Audio, video and PDF files can be downloaded, and other file types aren't opened, to protect you from harmful content.
No. ConnectSMS hands the message to Twilio, and Twilio and the recipient's carrier decide whether and how the pictures and files are delivered. The message status shows what they report, and Twilio charges MMS rates to your Twilio account.
